I first met Sarah & Drew in person for their engagement session last summer, during the height of quarantine. Their pup Walter was supposed to come but was still recovering from surgery, Sarah wanted downtown vibes but everything was still very much shut down, and Sarah even had to be creative since she wasn’t able to have her hair touched up prior to their wedding. I remember chatting during that time about what they envisioned for their wedding. We were hoping and praying that their day would be able to come to fruition and that it would be everything that they dreamed it would be. I think it is MORE than safe to say that this was absolutely the case for Sarah & Drew’s wedding at the Waterfront Convention Center this April!
It was such a joyful morning being able to be together and listen to the excitement and flurry about the upcoming day. We had one small scare moment when Sarah was getting into her dress and looked out the window to see one of the Groomsmen being wheeled into the hotel in a wheelchair!!! Not to worry though; we soon found out that they were just boys being boys and nothing serious had happened!
Sarah & Drew shared a first look at the Waterfront which was tearful and joy filled all at the same time. Drew was just SO happy to be able to see his bride (and BOY was she stunning!!!). They took a moment to themselves to read their vows privately to one another, and it was such a special time for them both to just soak in the day and reflect on their love for one another.
We were FINALLY able to get Walter in some photos and he was a showstopper for sure. Ya’ll know I’m a bit dog obsessed so I would’ve been happy to just called him a Bridesdog and have him tag along for the rest of the day. 😉 But in all seriousness; Walter is Sarah’s right hand man (or as she likes to call him; her soul mate) and I know that the fact that we were able to capture him in their portraits meant the world to Sarah (and Drew too!).
We made sure to stop by St. Ambrose University for some portraits since that is where Sarah and Drew met, fell in love, and even where they got engaged! We love incorporating locations that have a special meaning to our couples because they make your wedding day portraits that much more special. And it’s always fun to tack on a new memory to a place that already has so many.
Sarah and Drew planned an absolutely stunning ceremony in the sun soaked breezeway at the Waterfront. Sarah was walked down the aisle by her step dad, they had family and friends read scripture, and they exchanged personally written vows to one another. Looking around the room you could see all of the love and support that encompassed Sarah and Drew throughout their journey together.
It was an absolute pleasure to be able to capture this special day for Sarah and Drew. By the end of the day we all felt just like family and were sad to say goodbye. I hope you enjoy this preview from their beautiful day!
