Last weekend Cyle and I celebrated six years of marriage! Six years and a whole lot of life lived in between in.  In six years time we have moved three times, Cyle has had two jobs, we have brought four children into the world, and started two businesses.

When Cyle and I met he was the ‘bad boy’ (or seemingly so) and  I was the goody-two-shoes that would never dane to date someone like that.  Yet somehow, we ended up together, young and in love.

We spent months going to open mic nights at a local pub, flirting relentlessly.  I got to know him in a way that first impressions couldn’t live up to.

He was funny but not in a comedic way, more in a sarcastic ironic kind of way.  He was such a nerd, but it made him more endearing – especially because he did not look the type AT ALL.  He rode a motorcycle (ohhhhh yes.).  And he showed such an interest and cared about me; even though we weren’t even dating yet.

It was in that very pub that we sat at one in the morning on a Thursday.  The tunes of Lionel Richie’s ‘Easy Like Sunday Morning’ floating through the air.  All of our friends had left and it was Cyle and I sitting alone in a booth; my head on his shoulder, just listening.  Waiting.

Cyle opened up about how much he liked me, and how he knew I was someone that he could spend the rest of his life with.  He told me how amazing I was and asked if I would consider taking a chance on him.

I smiled to myself, knowing how much I actually liked him, and realizing that he had no idea.  I could hear in his voice how nervous he was, unsure of what my answer was going to be.

Of course I said yes and our relationship seemed to hit warp speed after that.  We dated for only seven months before he asked my dad if he could marry me.  My dad actually laughed when Cyle asked because he thought it was a joke!  Then we were engaged for nine months before we were married.

We were young and we were in love.  We had a lot of growing to do together, and a lot of learning.  I look back at the six years that we have spent together and I can’t believe how far we’ve come.  We’ve walked through some of the highest mountains, but we’ve also fought our way through some deep valleys.  I’ve learned a lot, and I know there is still so much more to learn.

But at the end of the day I know I’ve got a partner and a best friend to do life with.  And I wouldn’t have it any other way.  <3
